This will be short and to the point...I'm sure many people have heard from Barack Obama supporters when speaking about Obama say "He isn't perfect, but he's better than McCain". After that they usually state their full committal where the only thing that will stop them from pulling the lever for the great and almighty Obama in November would be death.
At what point do imperfections and alienating principles outweigh your support?
This is the question that many democrats need to start thinking about. Democrats like to dismiss pandering in the general election cycle as "trying to win", but in reality it's running away from principles. How would you like it if you registered for an organization, or signed a paper and once that organization had you fully committed they changed their policy for the next guy just to get their support? That's basically what Barack Obama is doing by changing his position on NAFTA, and waffling on whether he would vote for a bill giving FISA retroactive immunity or not (as well as other issues). Since many Obama supporters are unwilling to hold their vote over Obama's head they are basically giving him the freewill to alienate as many principles as he can to achieve victory in November without any reprucussions. (To be fair, this doesn't just happen with Obama but it's a product of the mode of thinking by Democrats that they must pull the lever for the candidate with the letter [D] next to their name without examining positions on important issues.)
It's no secret that the Democratic Party is moving further right year by year. If Democrats don't start standing up for the party principles this party might be all but lost. If I were an Obama supporter I wouldn't publicly state my full committal. Instead I would make sure pressure is put on Obama for my support and then Obama would think twice about alienating principles without reprucussions.
Think about it...
